A quality watch is built to last a lifetime — but like any precision instrument, it rewards proper care. Follow this guide to keep your timepiece looking and performing its best for years to come.

1. Keep It Clean

Wipe your watch regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust, sweat, and fingerprints. For metal bracelets, use a slightly damp cloth or a soft brush to clean between the links. Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials that can damage the case, crystal, or strap.

2. Water Resistance

Always check your watch’s water resistance rating before exposing it to water. As a general rule:

  • 30m / 3 ATM: Splash-resistant only — avoid submersion.
  • 50m / 5 ATM: Suitable for swimming in shallow water.
  • 100m / 10 ATM: Suitable for swimming and snorkelling.
  • 200m+ / 20 ATM+: Suitable for diving.

Note: Water resistance can degrade over time. Have the seals checked by a professional every 1–2 years, especially if the watch is regularly exposed to water.

3. Protect from Shocks & Magnets

Avoid dropping or knocking your watch against hard surfaces. Keep it away from strong magnetic fields (such as speakers, phone cases, and laptop closures), as magnetism can affect the accuracy of mechanical movements.

4. Store It Properly

When not wearing your watch, store it in its original box or a dedicated watch case to protect it from dust, moisture, and scratches. For automatic watches, a watch winder can keep the movement running and lubricated when not in use.

5. Service Regularly

Mechanical and automatic watches should be serviced by a qualified watchmaker every 3–5 years. Regular servicing ensures the movement stays lubricated, accurate, and in optimal condition. Quartz watches typically need a battery replacement every 1–2 years.

6. Strap Care

  • Leather straps: Keep away from water and direct sunlight. Condition occasionally with a leather care product to prevent cracking.
  • Rubber/silicone straps: Rinse with fresh water after exposure to saltwater or sweat.
  • Metal bracelets: Clean regularly and have the clasp checked for wear.
